Apple Bowl

8" across and 5" tall

Apple

Rosaceae Malus
Sapwood can be creamy white while heartwood is a rich reddish brown. Apple is a very hard wood and is good to use for mallets. Golf clubs were made from Apple.

This apple came from Bellview, Mich. Worms and years of water damage caused this tree to fall in the spring of 2000. Thirteen flat head worms were found during turning. The worms however only create part of the beauty of this bowl. The water started this wood to spalt while still growing. All of these factors created a spectacular palette of colors.

The bowl is finished with an oil finish that is very durable, but not waterproof. This bowl can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. If you wish, a furniture paste wax maybe used to protect finish.

This bowl was turned by Marion Rood and finished May, 2000.
