Woodworking and Woodturning in Native Woods

Kitchen Cabinets

The kitchen cabinets--Part I

I am building cabinets from Ash.  I have combined a lot of woods in the kitchen.  The trim is cypress and the floor is oak.  The wall behind the kitchen sink is Red Pine that came from a house in the Irish Channel in New Orleans.  I do the work when I can so it is taking a long time.

We took out part of wall right after buying the house to combine the two kitchens into one.  The old chimney was re-used for wood stove, but I boxed in one side so we can install cabinet unit. The other side needed new sheetrock and mud.

The first cabinet to go in was the dishwasher unit.  I paid $15 for dishwasher ten years ago and I'm hoping it'll last another ten.  The counter top is Corian, but it is only 1/4" thick.  It came from a bathroom wall.  I glued it on particle board and trimmed with ash.

The Dish Cabinet is styled after a New Orleans Kitchen Cabinet that is hung on another wall.  The glass is New German Antique and has a slight ripple in it.

The next cabinet I'm building is "faux" Hoosier Cabinet.  But before that came the floor...
